[DUBSTEP] In January, dubstep overlord Datsik tore up the Town Ballroom. But if it weren’t for his partner in crime, Excision, Datsik might not have a career. In fact, the two Canadian producers have had a symbiotic relationship, rising in the dubstep scene simultaneously with help from one another. In 2009 they released an EP, Boom, on Rottun Records with another one of their friends, Flux Pavillion. The record helped to implant the sounds of hard bass and menacing beats into the brains of North American electronic dance music fans. Six years later, Excision is touring on the heels of his second full length album, Codename X, which was released just a few weeks ago and features some of his well known friends, including Downlink. Codename X doesn’t necessarily pick up where his 2011 record, Rated X, left off—because a lot has changed in the dubstep scene since then—but it does keep the same spirit alive while adapting to some newer trends. Excision comes to the Town Ballroom on Monday, March 2 with support from Protohype and Minnesota.
