The Public Presents: Ale-G, Andrew Biggie, Cobalt Blue, & Tortoise Forest

[EXPERIMENTAL] At last month’s The Public Presents, we showcased a few notable pop, punk, and emo bands. This month, we’re heading in a totally different direction, bringing together four acts on the experimental music side for our next showcase at Nietzsche’s on Thursday, February 25. Ale-G also known as Alejandro Gutiérrez, who some might know as a former member of the jazz-poetry band Bourbon and Coffee, was the subject of a Spotlight piece in the Public in January. In it, he talked about his bombastic action paintings and his new album, ©℗®™. The record is a heavily improvised mix of cosmic jazz-art and spoken word poetry, which comes off as radically spontaneous as his visual art. On the album, Gutiérrez collaborates with his Bourbon and Coffee colleague Andrew Biggie, who will also be on hand to play a set at the show. Biggie recently released an album, Mementos from the Living World, which mixes a David Lynchian sense of surrealism with a cool jazz aesthetic. They’ll bring along their friends in the groovy-heavy noise-jam band Tortoise Forest while new-comers Cobalt Blue round out the line up.
