Tyler Perry’s Madea On The Run

[THEATRE] Fraught with the scars of abuse and poverty from his childhood, Tyler Perry found the faith, strength, and perseverance that would become the heart of his critically acclaimed plays, films, books and television shows. Comic relief is the backbone of a Tyler Perry Show. Perry’s 1998 I Know I’ve Been Changed told the story of a young boy who fell victim to child molestation. It was met with rave reviews. The Washington Post declared it unparalleled within its genre. This kick-started an incredible run of 13 plays in as many years, including I Can Do Bad All By Myself, which introduced the now-legendary Madea—a God-fearing, gun-toting, pot-smoking, loud-mouthed grandmother played by Perry himself. A resounding success, Madea spawned a series of plays and set the stage for Tyler’s jump to film. His first, Diary Of A Mad Black Woman lead nationwide, and ensuing films have all been met with critical and commercial success, captivating audiences around the world. Perry’s latest live comedy stint, Madea On The Run, covers infidelity and addiction with Madea’s insight woven through. Catch Tyler Perry’s Madea On The Run at Shea’s Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 19 and Sunday, February 21.
