[EXPERIMENTAL] I’ve seen Cages perform several times, and one thing is for sure, I’ve never heard the same show twice. That’s by design, and that’s a good thing. The band’s default mode of operation is collaboration, whether it be with a hardcore band like Gas Chamber or the Javanese percussion group, Buffalo Gamelan Club. This time around, for their show at Hallwalls on Thursday, January 25, the band—vocalist Nola Ranallo and guitarist/electronics wizard David Bailey—will be joined by oboe and english horn player Megan Kyle, for what should be once again a unique show. Cellist Katie Weissman opens the show with a set that’ll combine cello and electronics. For those who have never experienced a Cages show before, expect an experimental music concert with transcendent potential.
