[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] Not two years into his professional career and Troy Beetles, a.k.a. Datsik, had topped the Beatport chart multiple times—a notable feat since the digital music site is highly patronized by other DJs and producers. The Canadian-born knob-twiddler wasted no time in blowing up, playing high-profile gigs at Coachella, Miami’s Ultra Festival, and Stereosonic in Australia soon after, while also collaborating with the Crystal Method, Diplo, Steve Aoiki, and Bassnectar. Beetles takes inspiration from a mix of hip hop, dubstep, and techno, which results in a dark, gritty electro texture that’s heavily weighted on the bottom end. For his Ninja Nation tour, which hits Town Ballroom on Thursday with Crizzly and Virutal Riot, he’s employed Shogun Stage Production—an upgrade from his Vortex3.0 setup that’s got Shaolin Bass by PK Sound. We’re not equipped to say exactly what that will sound like, but something tells us you’ll feel it rattling square in your belly like an electronic thunderstorm.
