Rita Bo Brown: The Gentleman Bank Robber

[DOCUMENTARY]  Rita Bo Brown grew up white and working class in rural Oregon in the 1950s. She participated in the queer liberation movements of the 1960s and 1970s, eventually joining in militant actions that included bank robberies and bombings of institutions that her underground group, the George Jackson Brigade, deemed enemies of the revolution it hoped was coming. She served eight years in federal prison, was released, and became active in prisoners rights and prison reform campaigns. A documentary about Brown’s life, The Gentleman Bank Robber, screens Wednesday, January 17 at Burning Books.
