Chae Hawk
[HIP HOP] Buffalo rapper Chae Hawk is fixing to bring his brand of “progressive rap cinema” to one of the longest standing and most treasured venues in town, the Colored Musicians Club, this Saturday, January 16 He’ll do so with a full a band—Elephly—made up of musicians as young as 15 years old, including a young musician by the name of Declan Miers. “I saw him open for Cory Henry at Iron Works last year and I thought it would be perfect to include him and his band for this monumental night,” says Hawk. “It’s a privilege and an honor that the club is allowing me to show my chops on the same stage as the great jazz legends. It’s Super Bowl status to me.” In the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s the club famously played host to jazz greats such as Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and Dizzy Gillespie—so for those who care to arrive early, there will be a museum tour at 8pm. Hawk will play a selection of his original songs, including his latest, “Dirty Rich,” as well as a handful of special tunes with the band. The show will also feature Shane and Tone on the turntables. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Buffalo Center for Arts & Technology. The show will begin at 9pm. Presale only.
