The Public’s weekly local music reviews and previews.

Album:  Stress Dolls by Stress Dolls

Recommended if you like:  Nirvana, Pearl Jam, L7

The debut EP from Buffalo alternative rock band Stress Dolls was released on November 10. The self-titled EP features the band’s previously released single, “Pills,” a driving grunge track led by singer Chelsea O’Donnell. The band, formerly known as Wolf, takes cues from Nirvana on songs like “Swollen” and moves into indie rock territory on “Curves and Edges.” Physical copies of the EP on good old fashioned CDs come with a free sticker and if you’re lucky, a note from the band.

Single:  “Torch” by Conway x Cuns

Recommended if you like:  The Internet, Goldlink, Westside Gunn

Buffalo rapper Conway released a pair of tracks recently on newly founded Italian independent hip hop label Tuff Kong Records. The A side, “Torch” is a low key gangster rap burner featuring production from Cuns. B-side “Til I Go…” is a more introspective, pot-fueled cruise through Cuns’ hazy beats and Conway’s shrewd lyrics. Available now on black vinyl (a special run of yellow, purple and green vinyl are sold out).
