There is nothing more important, or delicious, than a home-cooked meal. It is something you’ve created, something you’ve been dying to try, or something your mother and grandmother used to make for you. For Amy, founder and writer for the Savory Moments blog and instagram page, home-cooked meals are where she found her passion. It all began 10 years ago when after returning from Thailand she discovered an entirely new level of food. “I had never experienced foods and flavors like that in my life and I became really interested in seeking out new ingredients and learning how to make new and different dishes by myself,” she says.

Amy’s list of at-home creations is eclectic and exciting. She can whip up something international like chicken and apple Indian curry, and the next day she’s serving something more comforting like bacon-cheeseburger pie. Amy is known for making many different dishes, but she has found that one vessel in particular will win over any crowd: tacos. “There are so many ways to make a taco, everyone loves them, and you can’t go wrong. They make people happy,” she says. Amy enjoys making classics but this kitchen maven also challenges herself with unique veggies and spices from local markets. She has found that there is more out there than just your standard tomatoes and cucumbers, and to keep that flavor flowing year round she has become a self-taught master of pickling and preserving: jams, fruits, pickles, and peppers she keeps the essence of every season right in her own home.

As the name of her page implies, Amy has a savory tooth. She utilizes a lot of different seasonings in her cooking but salt is her number one source of flavor, “nothing tastes right with out it,” Amy says. However, Amy is not opposed to trying something of a sweeter variety. Recently, Amy has found a passion for scratch baking. Her newest specialties are usually in the form of pies, both sweet and savory. Her creativity and curiosity for different ingredients is still present in the pies and tarts she creates.

Amy draws inspiration from other home-cook bloggers, too. “I admire people who take the time to make a home-cooked meal for themselves or their family, especially after a long day of work or school,” she says. Check out her recipes on her blog when you’re making your next home-cooked meal.
