Album: Of Night and Light by Of Night and Light

Recommended if you like: Thrice, Brand New, Chevelle

Post-hardcore band Of Night and Light will release their self-titled debut album this Friday, September 1. The eight track album is a slickly produced post-hardcore expedition that moves seamlessly through over driven basslines, reverberated drums, and heavy guitars.

Lead singer Josephy Kinem’s overwrought vocals are emo-grade but don’t fall into the realm of cringe worthiness. Instead, the vocals and lyrics blend appropriately with the heaviness of the music; Kinem’s singing is on point and his screaming voice is formidable. Bandmates, drummer Nick Badeu and bassist and backing vocalist Cameron Thibault combine for a tense yet fluid rhythm section that moves from verses to breakdowns as deftly as any popular band of the genre. Highlights include album-opener “Broken;” the mid-tempo burner “Arson;” and the very Brand New-esque album closer “Hope.”

The band will celebrate the release of the record with a show at Sugar City on Friday with support from Brent Martone of indie rock band Head North and pop-punk band Mason-Jar.
