Infringement Spotlight: Space Cubs

 Name: Space Cubs/Suzanne Bonifacio

 Age: 26

Describe what you will do this year as part of Infringement Festival.
I’ll be playing a super fun show with two of my good friends this year, one of which I haven’t seen in a year, so I’m really looking forward to that. Corner, Becca Ryskalczyk, and Space Cubs will be playing at Mohawk Place on August 27.

What inspires you to create your art?
To be honest, I grew up leading worship from a young age through most of high school, so I sort of just started writing songs about the changes that were always happening on the inside, related to my spiritual life. The songs are for others but also because making music makes me feel like I have some tangible way to send out what is going on on the inside at that time. If I didn’t dabble, at least, I’d feel crazed.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve done in the name of art?
In college my friends and I had an art club where we’d meet every Sunday night and have wine and snacks. We’d all write down anything random we wanted, phrases, anything. For example, one was, “stuck in a castle.” Then we’d go home that week and create anything we wanted in any medium based on that word, phrase, or idea. People would come up with the craziest stuff: Food, drawings, songs, recordings, sketches, anything. Then we’d do it again and again. It was seriously so fun.

Describe your favorite Infringement moment in past years’ events.
It’s been a couple years since I’ve played, but one show really stuck out to me, and I believe it was at The Bend. People were really engaged that night. Also, no one I knew was there, literally no one, and that was really awesome to see. All new faces, connecting.
