This Week's Public Picks

by / May. 11, 2016 4am EST

The Public’s weekly local music reviews and previews.

Album:  Free Zone Music by Peter Kirsch

Recommended if you like:  Mac DeMarco, Ariel Pink

Combining lo-fi recordings with dream pop aesthetics, Peter Kirsch puts together some strange pop riffs on the new record Free Zone Music. The self proclaimed “home recordist” released the record through the New York City-based not-for-profit music label OSR in March. Highlights include the Mac DeMarco-esque “Because of Me” which boasts a (presumably purposefully) cringeworthy video of a middle-aged hollahooper hooping in an infinite loop.

Video:  “Hard Way Off” by The Jealous Unknowns

 RIYL:  Chumped, Weezer, Foo Fighters

This week alt rock band The Jealous Unknowns released the music video for their single “Hard Way Off.” The song will appear on their upcoming EP Say Yes.
