Album:    Nightwalker by Brat’ya  Recommended if you like:  ’ Neon Indian, Phil Collins, Kraftwerk

The new album, Nightwalker, by Brat’ya a.k.a Alek Ogadzhanov is a neon 1980s electronic snythpop oddessy. Calling to mind chillwave artists like Neon Indian or Washed out, Brat’ya takes on the vibe sans the lo fi distortion. Quite the contrary, most of Nightwalker is as sleek as can be. The poppy, florescent title track gives way to the more downtempo “Goodbye”—basically Kraftwerk meets balearic house. The record moves through dance pop on “Radio” and “Follow You,” before revisiting that balearic house vibe on “Pretend,” and channelling Phil Collins on “Terror.” Nightwalker is streaming now on Bandcamp.

Single:    “Next Wave” by Bryan Johnson and Family  Recommended if you like:  ’ Real Estate, Ducktails, Beach Fossils

A new track from indie rock band Bryan Johnson and Family showed up recently. The band, which seems to have been on hiatus for a short time, returned with “Next Wave,” a hazy, sunlit guitar jam that seems to prematurely wish for summer. Recorded and Mixed by Nick Borgosz at World of Noise, and mastered by Paul Besch at Quiet Country Audio, the song is available for streaming now on Bandcamp.
