The Public’s weekly local music reviews and previews.

Song: Saint Opal — “Lunaful”
Recommended if you like: The Internet, FKA Twigs, ABRA

The new track from Buffalo artist Saint Opal, “Lunaful” brings a soothing sound with a smooth, new wave R&B flow. On this track and her others, the young artist makes it evident that her message is to make people feel good about themselves. Saint Opal will perform at Milkie’s on Friday, March 18 as part of the Spotlyte series.

Album: Cashier Smile — Safari Suit
RIYL: Tom Petty, Kurt Vile, James Taylor

Featuring former members of Mercury Rev and Marvelous Sauce, the acoustic alternative rock band Cashier Smile has recently delivered a full length record titled Safari Suit. The three-piece, members Patrick Lauerman, Steve Barrick, and Jimi Chambers, have crafted a record of low-key blue-collar rock record with a surreal tinge, highlighted by the Kurt Vile-esque “Panda Department.”

Song: Short Moscato — “Rose Gold”
Recommended if you like: Sage Francis, DJ Shadow, Mos Def

Buffalo’s prolific beat-maker Short Moscato dropped yet another new track this week, “Rose Gold.” The atmospheric track, which was produced by Moscato, also features his rapping a lyricism. The linear track meanders from a near ambient hip hop beat, to the temperamental rapping of Moscato, to a moody spoken-word sample.
