BuffaBLOG’s weekly local album reviews and event picks.

M.A.G.S. – Cellopane (EP)
Recommended If You Like: The Strokes, Cloud Nothings, The Malones
M.A.G.S., the new project from Elliott Douglas, former bass player for Buffalo buzz band, the Malones, celebrated the release of Cellophane this past Friday at Mohawk Place. Rounded out by former members of Young Suns and Mosiacs, M.A.G.S. recently signed to Buffalo/Brooklyn label, Admirable Traits, to release the EP.

Red Heat – Poisoning the Grand High Witch (EP)
RIYL: Death From Above 1979, Cursive
Poisoning the Grand High Witch is the latest EP from the politically and socially minded punk trio. Featuring members of the Etchings and Rackmastas, the trio’s sophomore EP was released via Steak and Cake Records on Valentine’s Day.

Chauncey Tails – Collection IV (LP)
RIYL: Bok Bok, Missingo
The new collection from the Gowanda-based beat maker, and frequent Jack Toft collaborator (listen for those horns on “WASHED”), is nine tracks of down tempo, chilltronica infused with soul and R&B flavors.

Zealot – “Spent” (Song)
RIYL: Modern Baseball, Front Bottoms
The Fredonia bred trio ditches the fuzz for second wave emo revival sounds on the latest track, “Spent.” An alternative take will be found on the threesome’s forthcoming EP, Folilage, which is set to drop sometime this spring.
