Spotlight: Buffalo Pro Fit + C-Training
That time of the year—when families and friends gather together to enjoy each other’s company, as well as some delicious eats that Grandma made—has just ended. Time to move on to your New Year’s resolutions. Of course, everyone’s list includes working out, getting in better shape, and improving diets. For those serious about fulfilling their fitness resolutions, C-Training and Buffalo ProFit located on Main Street are the new talk of the town. Buffalo ProFit is a fitness program created by Erik Prophet, based at C-Training, a fitness facility owned by Rochester native and personal trainer Chuck Jackson.
Two winters ago, Prophet’s left Buffalo for Fort Lauderdale, Florida to become an intern at Fit Speed, one of the most popular athletic and sports performance training facilities in the country. “Fit Speed was like a dream come true for me,” prophet says. “I saved up for two or three months, working two jobs, and took a leap of faith.”
At Fit Speed, Prophet worked with NFL players Brandon Marshall and Mike Evans. After eight months in Florida, Prophet moved to Fit Speed’s location in Chicago “I wasn’t training as much with the big-name athletes like I was in Florida,” Prophet says. ”I trained more with high-school athletes and teams.” He enjoyed the change, as he was given more responsibility in training athletes. “It felt just as good training ‘little Timmy’ as it did Brandon Marshall and Mike Evans. You see the expression on their face, and it makes your day.”
Jackson came to Buffalo from Rochester with one goal in mind: to make fitness a way of living for his clients. “I opened up C-Training to inspire people through my own methods and styles,” he says, explaining that he wanted to see less commercialization than other trend-setting gyms. “I worked for [LA Fitness], and there I felt like things had to be done a certain way. I don’t want to feel like a corporate gym. I want to feel home-grown.”
Buffalo Pro Fit started as Pro Fit by Prophet, a training program that didn’t quite gain the attention he wanted. “It was all about me, and at that time, that’s what I felt,” Prophet says. After a year in Chicago, Prophet returned to Buffalo, and Pro Fit By Prophet evolved into Buffalo Pro Fit. “I wanted it to be about everyone else, all of the community of Buffalo, not just me. Like Chuck said, it’s a lifestyle, we want to inspire people, plain and simple.” strong words said by both trainers. Prophet continued
All Prophet and Jackson want to do is help people to accomplish their goals. “There are no egos. I’m not better, Chuck’s not better, than the person next to us,” Prophet says.
C-Training and Buffalo Pro Fit are located at 3152 Main Street, near the South Campus of the University at Buffalo.
