Lincoln Park

[TRIBUTE] Some lawyer is probably knocking on their door as we speak, but Linkin Park tribute band Lincoln Park probably don’t care. Despite what seems like an outrageous trademark infringement, the band continues with their Hybrid Theory tour. The tribute band, based in Trinidad & Tobago craft their tribute set using actual Linkin Park samples and use authentic gear and effects also used by their favorite band. Catch them at Buffalo Iron Works on Friday, January 12.

The Beatles Quintet

[JAZZ] Five talented musicians have a special night of Beatles music lined up this weekend. The band, appropriately called the Beatles Quintet, will play through some of their favorite Fab Four tunes including “Come Together,” “Across the Universe” “Ticket to Ride” “Hard Day’s Night” and many others. Check out the Beatles Quintet this Thursday, January 11 at Pausa Art House in Allentown.

Fleuron Rouge Winter Hafla 2018

[PARTY] What’s a hafla, you ask? Well it’s the Arabic word that describes a huge dance party, which makes “hafla” is the perfect word to describe Flueron Rouge’s upcoming party at Babeville’s Asbury Hall. The belly dance troupe will present their annual hafla this Saturday, January 13, and as its 10 year anniversary, it’s bound to be a special one. Expect some creative dance pieces from the group along with music sets from Vinnie DeRosa and Jim Caughhill, as well as party stuff like cocktails and hors-d’oeuvres.

Tribal Seeds

[RAGGAE] Some reggae music sounds like exactly what we need to warm up to in Buffalo this month. Seems that’s what the Town Ballroom is thinking, fixing fans up with some sunny, warm reggae exactly when it’s needed most with a string of reggae-rock shows starting with Rebelution on Wednesday night. Following right behind them is San Diego’s Tribal Seeds, a seven piece reggae-rock band, slated to take the stage at the Town Ballroom on Saturday, January 13.

Cooler EP Release Show

[INDIE] Fuzz-rock band, Cooler, will release their next EP record with a show at Mohawk Place this Friday, January 12. The band recently released the first single from the five-track EP, the album’s title track “Buried,” earlier this month. The indie-pop track ratchets up the energy from the band’s mellower 2016 release, Phantom Phuzz, while sticking to some of their emo-leaning aesthetics.

Women's Resistance Revival Chorus

[RESIST] In celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Women’s March on Washington, and as part of M&T’s Second Friday series, the Burchfield Penney Art Center presents the Women’s Resistance Revival Chorus directed by Buffalo-based singer, songwriter Drea D’Nur. The event will feature a community chorus of more than 20 amature and professional women singers, assembled earlier in the week, who will perform pop-up musical performances throughout the gallery.

Neon Dreams

[POP] If you trust Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s musical taste, then add this Neon Dreams show to your list of things to check out this weekend. Being included on the politician’s summer Spotify playlist must have been a fun moment for the four piece band from Halifax, but it’s not their only claim to fame. They’ve been showered with praises from the Canadian press as a young band to watch—a pop phenomenon waiting to happen.

Done and Dunner

I, Tonya

To anyone who approaches the popular media with an objective eye, the last year or so has produced one clear lesson: Truth is an elusive concept. It’s hard enough when those telling a story do so with good intentions, as any student of history knows: Read any three books on the same topic and you may feel that you know less about it afterward than you did when you started. But when those with a pipeline to the public feel no compunction about lying to meet their goals, it’s staggering how quickly chaos can ensure.

Robin Thicke

[POP] One hit wonder, pop singer Robin Thicke is making the rounds in 2018. The “Blurred Lines” singer will come to Buffalo for a show at the Seneca Niagara Events Center on Saturday, January 6.
