Talk the Talk: Andrea Mancuso on Cartoonist Adam Zyglis

[LECTURE] The second installment in a new lecture series at Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center called “Talk the Talk“—in which an artist delivers a lecture on the work of another artist—is bound to be a popular one: The subject is Adam Zyglis, the Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist for the Buffalo News; the lecturer is Andrea Mancuso, cofounder of the artist collective virocode and an art instructor at the Nichols School.

A Chopin Weekend at the BPO

[CLASSICAL] In residence this week with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra is the esteemed Polish pianist Konrad Skolarski, an assistant professor at Warsaw’s Chopin University. Naturally, the 37-year-old’s stay in Buffalo will highlight the works of Poland’s most famous composer. First up is a free solo recital on Wednesday, November 1 at 8pm in the Mary Seaton Room, where the program ranges from Chopin to Liszt and Rachmaninoff—a pianist’s showcase.

Spotlight: House of Horrors

I don’t scare easily. When I was a child, horror movies were my favorite to watch. I would rent them year-round. As time has gone on, it takes more to scare me. I do not think I have ever been more scared than I was when I was a kid, discovering horror movies. Even though I was terrified—of my dolls coming alive to kill me, ghosts or demons hurting me, or snakes and enclosed spaces—I still wanted to experience that fright again and again.
