Lock Him Up

Between the semi-lucid staccato of hate from our racist white nationalist kleptocratic would-be dictator of a President, and the Republican Congress’ bare attempt to cut taxes for their donors and raise them on the middle class, there are too many horrific things happening in and to this country to keep up. This is an annus horribilis for the United States. 

GreenWatch, Goodbye Maurice Hinchey

Today’s GreenWatch focuses on the recent passing of long time friend and  Congressman Maurice Hinchey. Hinchey had a storied career as a New York Congressman that represented a district that spanned eight counties fromt he Hudson Valley to the Finger Lakes from 1993-2013. He was instrumental in establishing New York Stateand National  initiatives including the NY State Superfund Program, NYS Community Right to Know, and Medical Marijuana and health initiatives.  He was a strong proponant of clean Great Lakes.  We have missed him since his retirement.

Spotlight: Buffalo Rome

If you’ve just awoken from a 20 year long coma, finished wiping hospital crust from your eyes, and are now preparing to wander down to your favorite restaurant for a good meal and a cup of coffee; keep reading! It wouldn’t be good for your atrophied heart to flitter in defeat when you arrive at the site of the laundromat where the old Buffalo Rome once stood. Never mind its 18 year absence; you were asleep during those years, being washed by the thoughts and prayers of countless loved ones.

Mephiskapheles

[SKA] If their name wasn’t a tip off, Mephiskapheles are a self-styled “satanic ska” band from New York City. Formed in 1990 out of the ashes of a hardcore band, Mephiskapheles were an influential third wave ska band, touring with punk bands like the Buzzcocks. The band broke up in 2001 but reformed in 2012. Founding member Brian Martin returned to the band in 2013 after a string of shows which included Riot Fest in Chicago. In 2015 they released their self-titled comeback record.

Holiday Artists Market

[HOLIDAY MARKET] The Burchfield Penney Art Center will welcome a few dozen artists for a special holiday artists sale this Friday, December 1. Artists include jewelry makers, textile designers, visual artists, and sculptors. 20% of all sales will be donated to the Burchfield Penney Art Center.

Project 308 Gallery Holiday Trunk Show

[HOLIDAY MARKET] Project 308 Gallery in North Tonawanda will host their 6th annual Holiday Truck Show on Saturday, December 2. The show will feature 20 or so artists, crafts-people, and sellers of all kinds. Find interesting gift ideas such as Beer Belly Jellies—jams and jellies made from beer by proprietor Sarah Francis, as well as a variety of art and wares.

Garrison Keillor

[COMEDY] Author and radio show host Garrison Keillor will come to Babeville’s Asbury Hall for a live show this Sunday, December 3. The 75-year-old comedian and storyteller is best known for his radio show A Prairie Home Companion, which he hosted from 1974 to 2016. The variety show featured folk and country music, storytelling monologues, and fictional sponsors such as Bebop-A-Reebop Rhubarb Pie. Frequent guests on A Prairie Home Companion, folk duo Robin and Linda Williams open the show.
