Blue Christmas Holiday Party

[PARTY] This one is special to us. Not only are we a presenting sponsor, but we love the idea of a holiday party that can bridge the literary and performing arts and still be fun, and we promise this one on Friday night at Free Agent on Main Street will be fun. Poetry readings from the stable of writers (Jay Ritchie, Liz Bowen, Caroline Rayner, Sarah Jane Barry, Matthew Bookin) at Peach Mag open the night and set the stage for a music and drag show from Curtis Lovell and Vidalia May, capped with a dance party hosted by DJ Gift Receipt.

After Funk

[FUNK] Head down to Buffalo Iron Works on Thursday, December 14 to get your weekend festivities underway and shake a tail feather with Toronto’s After Funk. A hardworking quartet with roots in the jam band scene, After Funk has shared the stage with Lettuce, Snarky Puppy, Dumpstafunk and TAUK, among others. On Thursday, Syracuse-based trio Root Shock will open for them with a blend of reggae styles featuring the dynamic vocals of Jessica Brown.

Acid Cats, Tiger Chung Lee, and Funk Worthy

[FUNK] Feel like your holiday season is lacking flavor? Had your fill of hearing an auto-tuned Michael Buble crooning Christmas classics while you sip your latte? Shake it up! The lineup on Wednesday, December 20 at Mohawk Place offers a three-pronged solution to your soulless holiday blahs, featuring the groove-laden undercurrent of Akron’s Acid Cats, an acid-jazz quintet that’s determined to get you up and moving with impressive instrumental chemistry.

Strange Allure Volume 13: Analog Soul

[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] After an unfortunate last minute cancelation in June, Analog Soul is lined up again to play the next Strange Allure party. The duo, twin sisters Jacky and Kathry “DatKat” Sommer, who hail from New York City by way of Oakland, are on the rise in the Brooklyn underground house music scene. New Yorkers would find it hard to ignore Analog Soul, as the sisters first made their name on the East Village Radio station and as employees at popular NYC record stores.

Cam'ron

[HIP HOP] In 2014, Cam’ron teased his album, Purple Haze 2, promising that it would be out within a year and that it would be his last album.

Willie Nile

[ROCK] It’s that time again! Buffalo-born Willie Nile comes “home for the holidays” each year and usually plays a show or two while in town. This year is no exception: Nile is at Town Ballroom on Saturday, December 16, and while it’s advertised as his annual holiday show, he’ll surely highlight his new collection of Dylan covers, Positively Bob, as well as last year’s World War Willie.

Sonny Baker EP Release Show

[INDIE] One of Buffalo’s most consistent and hardworking talents is set to release a new solo EP, Steady Hands, Dead Tired (Admirable Traits Records), and the corresponding show is Friday, December 15 at Mohawk Place. Known for his inventive approach to guitar, Baker’s work in numerous projects — Lazlo Hollyfield in particular — has made him a prolific local figure with numerous irons in the fire. His solo work tends to be his most musically straightforward outlet, presented as an indie-rock quartet.
