Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad

[JAM] Being that Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad is from Rochester, it’s safe to say they are no strangers to the Buffalo area. Entering their fifteenth year, Giant Panda is known for blending the jam band scene with reggae. Touring in support of their most recent album STEADY, the band takes their proven formula and adds to it the addition of folk instrumentation. They’ll come to the Tralf Music Hall on Saturday, April 16.

After Funk

[FUNK] After Funk surfaced in Toronto back in 2011, and the Ontario funk scene hasn’t been the same since. In recent years the five-piece has appeared at various festivals alongside greats such as The String Cheese Incident and Ms. Lauryn Hill. Embracing a vigorous touring schedule has allowed them to garner a widespread audience through incredible live shows where the music is captivating and the dancing just comes with the territory. Catch After Funk with Imperial Brown at Buffalo iron Works on Friday, April 15.

The Mowgli's

[POP] With their major label debut The Mowgli’s (inappropriately placed apostrophe included), made waves with their sunny brand of indie pop—specifically their widely embraced hit single, “San Francisco,” The Mowgli’s have embarked on stardom that has included sold out shows and gigs on late night television. Their latest release, “Kids In Love” dishes out 12 pop cuts that maintain their upbeat, beach-friendly vibe.

Turkuaz

[FUNK] Helmed by Dave Brandwein and Taylor Shell, Turkuaz started out as a small side project, but once Berklee College of Music’s student-run label, Heavy Rotation Records, got wind of that smooth funk they added the Brooklyn-based outfit to their annual showcase. While their recordings are undeniably hot, the nine-piece’s live show is where it’s at. Each member is blessed with impeccable musicianship and spirit, making for a bone-chillingly good live spectacle where the energy is as colorful as the instrumentals.

Interview: Bleached

[INDIE] Los Angeles band Bleached have returned with a brand new album, Welcome The Worms, which delves into the tumultuous times the Clavin sisters, Jessica (guitar) and Jennifer (guitar and vocals), experienced during the making of the record, and also demonstrates their ascent out of those dark places. Bassist Micayla Grace also joined in on the songwriting process this time around, while Marc Jordan offered up his talents behind the drum kit.

Rock A Mile

[ROCK] The 2nd annual rock show complementing the similarly named Crisis Services fundraiser “Walk A Mile in Her Shoes” comes to the Lockhouse Distillery on Saturday night, “where bands wear heels” to stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence. Five bands with rock chops will try to get through their sets without toppling over: Mallwalkers, Basement Rat, The Patterns, Dead Lounge, and Potters Field.
