The Felice Brothers

[ROCK] It takes big balls to say ‘let’s form a band’ with no prior experience playing music, and even bigger ones to actually land a career doing it. Collectively, the Felice Brothers must be hangin’ low since that’s exactly what they did back in 2006 when Palenville, New York, brothers Ian and James Felice—along with a few friends—began busking  in the New York City subways.

Pup

[PUNK] PUP brings fresh energy from Toronto’s punk scene, fusing the rawness the genre has always celebrated and the modern “melodic hardcore” sound with a nerdy, underdog mentality. The resulting riotous din landed the four-piece a deal with the Side One Dummy label and they’ve just finished recording a second full-length, due for release later this year. Listen for some new tunes when they play at the Studio at The Waiting Room on Thursday, February 11.

Graveyard

[METAL] Gothenburg Sweden quartet Graveyard’s brand of metal is a reminder of the genre’s roots in hard-edged blues, ala Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.

GreenWatch: What's in the Water #1

GreenWatch What is in the Water?

This is the introductory piece to the new GreenWatch Series “What’s in the Water?”  In this series we will explore the stability, conditions, and control of our waters, including the Great Lakes, regional and local ecosystems, watersheds, wetlands, rivers, creeks, pools, ponds, forests, and the headwaters forests. The premise of this series is that access to clean, drinkable water is vanishing and we can find ways to create better water security.

Old Chestnut Film Society presents: Holiday

[SCREENING] Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn made three classic films in the late 1930s. But while Bringing up Baby and The Philadelphia Story may be better known, Holiday (1938) is a movie that deserves to gain a wider following. Based on a play by Philip Barry (who also wrote Philadelphia Story), the film stars Grant as a young man who has worked hard for success and is on the verge of achieving it: a financial deal will pay him a big bonus, and he is engaged to the daughter of a Wall Street bigwig that will ensure his career.

Choise of Valentines

[DANCE] Looking to have a spicier Valentine’s Day than usual? Choise of Valentines, A Burlesque Cabaret will be at the Patchwork Theatre in Niagara Falls all this weekend. Based on an erotic poem by Thomas Nashe published in 1592 London, this performance was conceived by star Elliot Fox, choreographed by Vanessa Oswald, and lighting is done by Corina DeFabbio. Suggested for mature audiences. Tickets to this show are $15, or save money as a couple and get two tickets for $25.

Metro Station

[POP] The synth pop duo responsible for the song “Shake It” eight or so years ago roll into the Waiting Room this Thursday, in what should be a fun show. The band, which consists of Miley Cyrus’ brother, Trace Cyrus, and the brother of one of her Hannah Montana co-stars, Mason Musso, are touring in support of their new album Savior. Waterparks, Winski, Thundercloud Kid, and Arrow Trail perform in support.
