Buffalo Students Create Birthday Music Video for Michelle Obama
This week, a Buffalo based musician named Da’Von McCune released his first piece of music, a tribute to first lady Michelle Obama that comes on her birthday—the day after Martin Luther King Day, and in the final week of Barack Obama’s presidency. The song, titled “Michelle Obama Ft. T Brizzy,” a danceable hip hop track with a catchy hook about the first lady also comes as a refreshing reminder of the love and positivity that many people in Buffalo feel for the first family on the heels Carl Paladino’s hate speech which was pointed at Michelle Obama, especially.

[HIP HOP] Host Truey V brings to the stage five Buffalo-based hip hop acts this Sunday, January 22 at Milkie’s. Acts include Little Cake, Looney Acres, Rodagues, Jack Topht, and a performance by wza, Short Moscato, and Illusive under the name 14 Trapdoors.
Pieces Cassette/Digital Release Show
[ELECTRONIC] Last week two local musicians, Bill Nehill and Ed Hallborg, working under the name pieces, released their new collaboration, an album called pieces 1. (See last week’s “Public Picks” for our mini-review of the album.) This week, they’ll celebrate the release of that album at Mohawk Place this Friday, January 20 with a show that’ll feature a performance by the duo, as well as sets by Sparklebomb and DJ Nicholas Reid.
