David Kane’s MANdate a Go-Go, The Bipolaroids, Lifemusik mit Andre, Harvey Bigman

It’s a good time for old and new fans of Buffalo veteran musician and composer David Kane. Last weekend he played the Sportsmen’s Tavern with Them Jazzbeards, playing their debut release in its entirety on its 25th anniversary, and this Saturday the 4th he looks forward, bringing his newest project, MANdate a Go-Go, to Mohawk Place. The project incorporates original electronic music, an elaborate setup involving old and new instruments, and is accompanied by the “non-stop improv go-go dancing” of Nancy Hughes and Aaron Piepszny.

Opening the show at 9 sharp, The BiPolaroids include members of local indie legends Global Village Idiots and current rock standouts Soul Butchers. Although this is only their third gig, they’re already building a reputation for a diverse array of original songs, ranging from catchy pop numbers to sultry burners, featuring solid rhythms, excellent guitar playing, a light sprinkling of synths, and a top shelf vocalist in Kristin Gilmet. This band is worth showing up early for.

Between the BiPolaroids and David Kane are two strange and wild solo acts from Burlington, VT. A recent transplant to Buffalo, Lifemusik Mit Andre is a sort of a futuristic lounge act gone awry—both deeply weird and downright funny. The title of Harvey Bigman’s February release, Pulse Mode Glitch, seems to describe their experimental electronic sound as well as any three words. It’s going to be a special night at the Mohawk for lovers of new, original, and eclectic music.
