ElectroRespect 8 — A Tribute to Mark Freeland

[TRIBUTE] I remember the first time I heard a Mark Freeland song: It was at a friend’s party and someone put Electroman’s American Googaloo on the turntable. It was so zany, but instantly likeable and I couldn’t believe the guy was from Buffalo. A trip down the Freeland rabbit hole ensued: In addition to Electroman there was Pegasus, Pegasonics, the Fems, and of course all of Mark’s solo and visual artwork.

The BMHA Has a Plan

The beleaguered Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority’s transformation plan was approved by the Board of Commissioners Thursday, and will now be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the federal agency that supplies most of the authority’s funding.

Lancaster at a Crossroads

Who better to expound on whether “Redskins” is offensive to American Indians than two blonde non-Indians?

The Buffalo News reports that Brenda Christopher and Kelly Depczynski are running for the Lancaster school board, and sort-of-possibly-but-maybe-not-but-really-yes advocating for the voters to fail the Lancaster school budget and a capital bond proposal, all to the detriment of the community and her students.

Groanfest '15

We thought that Ray Walter taking on Mark Poloncarz would be fun, right? They’re each of them snarky, smart, partisan, and combative. But it’s already become supremely annoying.

Spotlight: Travis Widrick

“When I became a tango teacher I was really inspired and wanted to learn more about the culture of tango and bring that to Buffalo and to my students as well,” says tango dancer Travis Michael Widrick.

Widrick welcomes dancers from far and wide to join him on the dance floor for this year’s ESO! Buffalo Tango Marathon from Friday April 24 through Sunday April 26 at the Dry Gulch Dance Hall at 3145 Walden Ave. in Depew.
