Ween
[ROCK] Passing through the delicate landscape of communal psycho-spiritual transformation with a five man pair of guys like Ween is the same as mounting a thrashing buck during the peak of mating season, and whispering languidly into its ear, “may I have a ride home?” You may eventually find yourself alive and warm, folded into the kindness of your bedding, caressing your mind with a trancelike recollection of the string of countless points which have led you to this very moment, but you will never know whether the decision to saddle up and ride into such vulnerable, frenet
Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters
[ROCK] For this gig, call him Bud. Music is apparently Billy Bob Thornton’s first love—the acting thing was a happy accident. Along the way, he released four solo albums and, in 2007, formed the Boxmasters with sound engineer JD Andrew. On their new disc, In Stereo, the band teamed up with legendary Revolver and Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band engineer Geoff Emerick for some more psychedelically-inclined vibes, but the garage-surf elements that have always been part of the band’s sound (the earliest material aside) remain.
Brit Floyd
[TRIBUTE] There are many, many Floyd tribute and cover bands, but only a few have risen to the top. In this case, Brit Floyd is an offshoot of The Australian Pink Floyd Show, started by Damian Darlington in 2011 after touring with the Aussie show for 17 years. Why? Well, Darlington feels that Brit Floyd is a step up. He says the show is more detail oriented and overall, a more nuanced production, visuals included.
The First 7 Days of Infringement Festival
[INFRINGEMENT] If you’re an artist in this city and you signed up to be part of the Infringement Festival, get ready—it’s your time to let loose for the next 11 days. If you’re just a fan, a lover of music, art, poetry, theater, and all things creative, it’s your time to explore all of the whacky, fun, weird, meaningful, outsider art that this city has to offer.
Interview: Lucy Dacus
[INDIE] Father John Misty will bring his brand of broody crooning to Canalside on Thursday night, July 26. But before the bearded indie-folk artist takes the stage, Lucy Dacus, the rising singer-songwriter from Richmond, Virginia, will introduce herself to the crowd at Canalside. Dacus debuted two years ago with her first album, No Burden.
Interview: Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene
Canadian indie rock band, Broken Social Scene will perform on Saturday, July 28 at one of Buffalo’s most anticipated summer music festivals, Cobblestone Live, which will be held in downtown Buffalo’s Cobblestone District. The two day festival will also feature performances by an eclectic line up of bands including the Sheepdogs, Turkuaz, Aqueous, Chicano Batman, Golf Clap, and many more across three stages.

The Buffalo Infringement Festival Schedule is Live
This year’s Buffalo Infringement Festival is coming up quickly. The massive 11 day festival begins on Thursday, July 26 and runs until Sunday, August 5. During that time, hundreds of artists, musicians, poets, dancers, actors, and actresses will perform in venues big and small all around the city, but especially Allentown and the surrounding areas.

Looking Backward: Engine No. 22, circa 1900
Spotlight: First Ward
After less than a year together, First Ward, an indie rock band full of heavily experienced local musicians, are starting to make some moves. They’re wrapping up recording of their debut EP and looking forward to some pretty big shows this summer, including a slot on the Cobblestone Live music festival as an opening act for the critically acclaimed Canadian indie rock band, Broken Social Scene.
Catcher in the Rye With Diamonds
Greg Sterlace says that Catcher in the Rye With Diamonds is his fifth movie, so I’ll take his word for it. I can only recall three others—Ross and Gwen, Failure, and Sweet Jesus—and I can’t go to imdb.com to look up the fifth title because Sterlace doesn’t have an imdb page.

Height Keech
[HIP HOP] Height Keech is no joke. The Baltimore-based artist has toured with better known acts like Beach House and Future Islands, making a name for himself with his eccentric indie rap style that dips into some somewhat unusual production designs. Check out his Cold Rhymes Records released “Mind Moves the Mountain” to get a taste, then check him out at Sugar City on Wednesday, July 18 at Sugar City with Kate Ferencz, Mister, and Welks Mice
