Double Exposure

[PHOTO] Photographer Sarah Barry’s “Double Exposure” series—a series of photographs that combine portraits of Buffalo neighbors with shots of local landscapes—is on view at Grindhaus.

New Riders of the Purple Sage

[ROCK] If you’re a fan of Workingman’s Dead (the album, not the cover band—although it could work either way) then you might enjoy the old-world twang that sometimes crept into the Grateful Dead’s output and certainly informed some of Jerry Garcia’s side projects (Old and In the Way, in particular). New Riders of the Purple Sage embody that same spirit, but the band’s penchant for country music is infused with psychedelic sensibilities, leading to their claim of being, “America’s premier psychedelic cowboy band.” Since t

TechNoir & Soma Space Time Trip Present: End of Line

[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] DJ Soma takes his Space Time Trip back to Milkie’s on Saturday, July 2. DJs include Nekrotique, Arcatek, Bud Redding, Short Circuit, and more. Presented by DJ Soma and TechNoir. This will be the final TechNoir-promoted event in Buffalo.

Zac Brown Band

[COUNTRY] The Zac Brown Band has been shaking up the country scene since the early 2000s, but their latest release Jekyll + Hyde is by far one of their most peculiar, albeit brilliant collections yet.

Bob Dylan

[FOLK] When Bob Dylan takes the stage, he’s all business. He doesn’t talk up the crowd, or thank them for coming out, and why should he? He’s Bob Dylan. Arguably one of the most influential figures of the 20th and 21st centuries, Dylan’s career has spanned half a century, boasting 35 albums, an autobiography, a documentary about his life and thousands of live performances with consistently alternating sets.

Grover Washington Jr. Tribute

[JAZZ] The John Lehning Sextet will spend the evening covering the smooth jazz hits of Buffalonian Grover Washington Jr. on Friday, July 1 at the Pausa Art House. Washington’s influence on the genre was prominent. He is considered the father of smooth jazz and was behind some of the greatest hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s including “Mister Magic” and “Winelight.” In keeping with the evening of homage towards Buffalo’s jazz notoriety, Buffalo’s Bobby Militello will feature on the saxophone.

Seahaven

[ROCK] California’s Seahaven will be playing at the Waiting Room on Friday, July 1. The Los Angeles-based indie group came out with their latest album Winter Forever, back in 2011 but expect them to play some cuts from their first release, Ghost, and the new but slightly more poppy single, “Find a Way.” Citing inspirations such as Crime in Stereo and Jawbreaker, Seahaven paradoxically relies on somber but hopeful lyrics set to classic pop punk instrumentals with Kyle Soto and James Phillips leading on vocals.

GreenWatch Sunday Morning TV: Our Outer Harbor

If you have never been to our Outer Harbor just south of the downtown area, you might get the impression from most media reports that it is a “wasteland” just waiting for access to its highest use, often described by our conservative business community’s talking points as instense development into a new urban community. Much like the Admirals Walk “community” adjacent to the Buffalo Inner Harbor, which makes public access and enjoyment almost impossible to anyone except the high end condo users in that, um, “public” neighborhood.
