Buffalo Zine Fair 17'
[ZINE FAIR] You’re probably reading this in print right now, which means you likely subscribe to the notion that printed media is not dead. The artists at the annual Buffalo Zine Fair do too, in factthat’s their tagline. “PRINTED MEDIA IS NOT DEAD. Let us rebel against library closings, newspaper downsizings, and e-readers by celebrating good old-fashioned physical handmade print media!” the organizers—specifically Gutter Pop Comics and Sugar City—proclaim. They’ll hold their annual zine fair this Saturday, November 4 at Sugar City, where they’ve invited a couple dozen “zine creators” to set up shop. For those out of the loop, a zine is a small, usually DIY publication—usually photocopied as opposed to professionally printed—that comes out regularly or even just once and features original artwork, photos, poetry, and/or essays. In the 1970s the punk zine became popular before transforming into online zines in the late 1990s. This festival, of course, will be dedicated to those odd, quirky, fun print editions, of course. The full list of vendors can be found on the Facebook event page, just type in Buffalo Zine Fair 2017. Entry is free and the event runs from 11am until 5pm.
