Today at 2pm: Rally for Transgender Civil Rights

At 2pm today (Sunday, February 26), Western New Yorkers will rally in Niagara Square to protest the Trump administration’s rescinding of guidelines to states protecting the civil rights of the transgender community.

From a press release issued by Stonewall Democrats:

Under the new regulations filed at the Supreme Court today, transgender children will no longer be able to use restrooms that match their gender identity.

“This is an attack on the transgender youth of America, and our nation will not stand for this,” said Bryan Ball, president of Stonewall Democrats of WNY. “This is not about politics, this is about protecting children. While here in New York we have legislated protections for trans youth, the ramifications of the Trump administration’s actions today will directly affect and put in harm’s way children in states where no such legislation exists.”

The rally will be cosponsored by Spectrum Transgender Group of WNY, the Pride Center of WNY, Buffalo-Niagara PFLAG, Queers for Racial Justice, WNY Anti-Violence Project, WNY Peace Center, Pilgrim-St. Luke’s & El Nuevo, Temple Beth Zion (Buffalo, NY), No Labels Clothing Cooperative and other local LGBTQ and allied organizations, and will show that WNY stands or transgender civil rights, and for protecting all children.

Speakers will include members of the transgender community, and supporters across the WNY community, speaking from experience on the importance of protections for transgender youth in our nations’ schools.
