[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] Buffalo underground party collective Strange Allure returns with another party this month, Saturday, October 15, at an undisclosed location, and they’re bringing another member of the Discwoman squad with them. Umfang, a.k.a. Emma Olson is co-founder of the feminine-focused record label and booking agency. The New York City-based producer and DJ tends to tackle minimal techno on her various releases, mostly out on the Vancouver-based label 1080p. In a recent interview with Thump, Olson says that though it serves to do so, her interest in hard techno music doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with subverting gender norms—it just appeals to her. “I was excited by harder music and that’s just what I connected with. I definitely remember noticing that a lot of women would play what I thought was softer music. For me, it made me feel powerful to explore those sounds and be able to play them out,” she said. Umfang will be joined by another New York City-based artist, Max McFerren—known for his releases on the Allergy Season label and for his regular club nights at Bossa Nova Civic Club in Brooklyn. Pure & Supreme come out with the opening set. Anticipate the usual op notch sound and lighting as well.
