[PUNK] Just to be clear, Peelander Z is not a Zoolander reference. The self described “Japanese Action Comic Punk” band formed in 1998, three years before the hilarious Ben Stiller movie with the strangely similar name. Anyways, Peelander Z is made up of a few characters: Peelander Yellow, Peelander Purple, Peelander Pink, Peelander Green, and Peelander Black. The band’s line up seems to change pretty regularly; though Yellow is an original member, the rest of the colors seem to rotate. Everything about this band is stylized from their hyper-punk pop songs mostly about food (“Taco Taco Tacos,” “S.T.E.A.K.” and “Ice Cream!”) to their orgin story (they hail from the Z area of Planet Peelander, of course), and their lucha libre appearance. Like a sugar high, their live show is full of manic moments, which will certainly make for an interesting night when the six piece band from Japan comes to Mohawk Place on Wednesday, December 3 with support from Kharlos and Jamie and the Debt.
