Grumpy Ghey: Out, Damned Spot!
George Afedzi Hughes at Indigo
The title of artist George Afedzi Hughes’s exhibit now at the Indigo Gallery on Allen Street is Collisions [amp], the “[amp]” for “amplified,” I was told. Collisions with a connotation of violence, but also of connection, or connections, it would seem. As the essence of any artwork. How the images in a work connect to one another, and to us, and we to them. To the story they presumably tell. Hughes’s artwork—full of disparate images—raises question in these regards.

Looking Backward: Booth Alley
“Alleys, like this section of Booth Alley, may soon be a thing of the past. They once served as thoroughfares but many have been obliterated by parking lots and new buildings.” –Buffalo Courier Express, January 27, 1968

Face to Face
[PUNK] You may recall, California quartet Face to Face blew up considerably in the mid-1990s with the single “Disconnected,” included on the Tank Girl Soundtrack. Now several years into reuniting after a hiatus—during which front man Trevor Keith played in Legion of Doom and drummer Pete Parada joined the Offspring (he’s now replaced by Uprising’s Danny Thompson)—Face to Face is gearing up to record a new disc this fall.
