Judy Collins
[FOLK] Folk-icon Judy Collins may be best remembered for her bestselling cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” and the quintessential version of Stephen Sondheim’s “Send in the Clowns” from the musical, A Little Night Music. But her career, now 55 years on, is rooted in the same Greenwich Village folk scene that launched luminaries like Simon & Garfunkel, Odetta, and Bob Dylan. Although she’s periodically toured this time of year as a holiday treat for devoted fans, 2015 saw Collins, now 76, release a new record. Strangers Again, out this September, pairs her with vocal partners like Willie Nelson, Jackson Browne, Glen Hansard, and Ari Hest, while covering writers as disparate as Randy Newman and Leonard Bernstein. If you haven’t seen Judy Collins before or it’s been a long time, you’ll be genuinely floored by the amazing preservation of her voice, which will ring like a bell through Babeville’s Asbury Hall on Thursday, December 17 for a special seated general admission show.
