Studio: Zurawski, Vittiello, Bae
[POETRY] Times like these, we need our poets harder than ever and Just Buffalo’s Studio series is prepared to take us there on Thursday with another excellent lineup of poets and writers with range, big ideas, and fox suits. Magdalena Zurawski will make a long-awaited visit to Buffalo by way of Athens, Georgia where she teaches literature. Zurawski is a double threat in poetry and fiction, with her 2015 book of poems Companion Animal winning the Norma Farber First Book Award. Chris Vitiello will also migrate north from Durham, North Carolina. Vitiello writes sharp-as-hell poems in adoration of Jaromir Jagr, and when he performs, he borrows heavily from the theater, at times dressing in a fox costume in order to subvert hoi polloi cocktails parties with original typewritten poems. And Woogee Bae, a student in UB’s innovative writing program, is the author of poems that deal with cultural displacement and assimilation and its accompanying language loss.
