[ART PERFORMANCE] To open a retrospective of film projects highlighted by a selection of stills and film boxes showing mostly his hand-painted abstract film work, Buffalo artist Brian Milbrand is staying true to form and collaborating with other artists to produce an event and not just an opening this Friday, November 18 at downtown’s BOX Gallery. As long as Milbrand has moved in Buffalo art circles, he’s done so collaboratively, and many times in the unheralded role of support, lending his technical expertise in sound, film, and light production in theater, experimental film, and performance art. Milbrand will be performing at 9pm by live painting a film and accompanied by music from Kevin Cain, David Kane, and Bobby Millitello. BOX Gallery, adjoining and co-occupying the youth hostel downtown, has quietly become an occasional warm spot in the underbelly of Buffalo’s art scene, a welcoming front door to international travelers homegrown astral travellers alike.
