Torn Space presents: Response
[PERFORMANCE] Torn Space Theater just keeps reaching and growing. Committed to bringing challenging and innovative work to area audiences, the company—founded by Dan Shanahan and Melissa Meola—has attracted international attention for its theatrical spectacles and to the places it uses to mount them. This includes Silo City (which has drawn international attention and artists on its own merit) and the Adam Mickiewicz Dramatic Circle, Torn Space’s home base. These are the sites of this weekend’s Response Festival, which features two performances. In Silo City’s Marina A elevator and aboard the SS Columbia (a former cruise ship docked beside Marine A), Torn Space presents Burden. At the Adam Mickiewicz Dramatic Circle, the internationally acclaimed performance troupe Temporary Distortion presents My Voice Has an Echo in It. Burden promises an “immersive experience of light, sound and cinema”; no need to concern yourself in advance with the narrative elements, just go see it. Temporary Distortion offers “a six-hour durational performance of live music, spoken text and video set within a freestanding, soundproof environment.” You can see both shows on one night or each show on different nights. A pass for both shows cost $30; a pass for one show alone costs $20. VIP passes are available, too, which include a reception at Silo City and a talk by Shanahan, one of the region’s canniest and brightest arts entrepreneurs. Visit tornspacetheater.com for more details.
