5 Must See Infringement Festival Shows
[INFRINGEMENT] As usual, this year’s Infringement Festival line up is massive, with hundreds of shows and even more artists. Here we’ve compiled a list of some of the most notable shows of the week, but we encourage you to do some digging at infringebuffalo.org to find some hidden gems.
OPENING CEREMONIES
Thursday, July 28 / 8PM-1AM
Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen St, Buffalo
The Opening Ceremonies are obviously a good place to dive right into Infringement Festival. With a bunch of music and some burlesque thrown in, this year 10 acts will participate—Bass Pro and the Waterfront Revivalist, beerhall philosophers, the Minions, the Left Hand of Darkness, the Hell’s Harlots Burlesque, Matka, Bagel Jesus & Friends, Lazy Ass Destroyer, Intent to Sell, and Hooked on Casiophonics. The Opening Ceremonies will be preceded by the 2nd Annual Opening Day Invisible Partybus Memorial Parade, which you’ll probably find pretty quickly if you’re hanging around in Allentown.
HI TEMP FABRICATION OPENING SHOW
Friday, July 29 / 5PM-10PM
Hi Temp Fabrication, 79 Perry St, Buffalo
Located downtown next to the First Niagara Center, Hi Temp Fabrication is a factory-turned fourth floor art gallery where the Infringement Festival’s largest visual arts show will take place. 11 instillations, with titles like Flamboyant Elegance, Mars Project, and Wondering Bipolar Mind, will be up for the entirety of Infringement Festival, starting on Friday, July 29. On Friday, folks will celebrate the opening of the show with music and burlesque by Sitar with World Groove Loops, MAAPS, Margot Kisiel Guitar, bul-bul tarang gang, and The Sunshine Sisters Burlesque.
Part of Flamboyant Elegance, by Joshua Miller.
IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN BUFFALO
Tuesday, August 2 / 11PM-MIDNIGHT
Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen St, Buffalo
Certainly one of it’s kind, this burlesque tribute to Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one you should see, you know, because of the implications. The gang (The Stripteasers) will be performing Day Man (ah ah AH!) with music before and after by Joe Donohue.
BUFFALO CAR PLAYS
Thursday, July 28 — Wednesday Aug 3 / 5pm-8PM
Kleinhans Parking Lot, 3 Symphony Circle, Buffalo
Buffalo Car Plays is one of the more unique Infringement Festival experiences you’re likely to find. Five Buffalo play writes have collaborated to write four new, 10-minute long plays that take place entirely in a car. The audience of three to four people view the play from the backseat of the car parked in the Kleinhans parking lot. The last time Buffalo Car Plays was shown, in 2013, every show sold out, so consider getting tickets now.
APOCALYPSE BALL
Saturday, July 30 / 9PM-2:30AM
Mohawk Place, 47 E Mohawk St, Buffalo
A handful of experimental, progressive, and electronic music acts will come together to summon the inevitable coming of the end times, at Mohawk Place this Saturday, July 30. Bands include the Finality Complex, Fundetta (on tour from Germany), Whiskey Gatorade, The Maension, Blueshift, and ish kabbible. It wouldn’t be too crazy to dress in some Mad Max-esque post-apocalyptic gear to this one, either.
