Brandi Carlile

[FOLK] Inspired at an early age by musicians like Johnny Cash, Elvis, and Elton John, singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile has developed a unique sound that combines folksy instrumentation with poignant lyricism. Soon after setting out to make a life in music at age 17, Carlile formed a band with brothers Phil and Tim Hanseroth. She released her self-titled debut in 2005, but truly came into her own for her sophomore release, 2007’s The Story, which was produced by the famed roots-rock producer T Bone Burnett—known for his work with everyone from Roy Orbison to Elvis Costello, and k.d. lang. “T Bone—he walks in the room and there’s an instant environment of T Bone-ness. There’s something about that guy,” she said of working with the producer in an interview earlier this year. Her latest record, 2015’s The Firewatcher’s Daughter, highlights her talents as a vocalist as much, if not more than her previous records. She only rarely belts out her vocals Adele-style (and she has enjoyed a few comparisons to the vocal master) instead opting for precision and subtlety. On Monday, July 11, Brandi Carlile will bring her traveling folk-rock show to Babeville’s Asbury Hall with special guest Margo Price.
