Marilyn Manson
[ROCK] This year marks the 20th anniversary of one of Marilyn Manson’s most iconic records, Mechanical Animals. Whether you’ve heard the record or not, you would most definitely remember the album sitting on the shelves at Media Play with artwork that featured an androgynous, robotic Manson with long red hair and lipstick posing eerily. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200—the band’s first number one album. Whereas many fellow artists at this point in their career—more than 25 years deep—might depend on revisiting such iconic works, Manson isn’t too preoccupied with it. He plays one or two cuts from the album, but he’s—rightfully so—more concerned with his latest record, Heaven Upside Down, which was released at the end of 2017. The album, which Manson says was inspired by Joy Division and David Bowie, is as is usually the case with Manson’s releases, pretty lyrically complex, but is anchored by poppier singles like “Kill4Me.” Expect a healthy dose of classic Manson material and new stuff when the shock rock super star comes to the Rapids Theatre on Friday, February 9.
