HoneyHoney

[INDIE] Inspired by a menagerie of rock, country, spaghetti western movies, and swampy blues, Benjamin Jaffe and Suzanne Santo got together and began making music under HoneyHoney in 2006. Between Jaffe’s resonating finger picking and Santo’s velvety, sprawling voice (she also plays banjo and violin) the alternative country duo seamlessly churned out intimate ballads amid a pop-laden city; creating the kind of gritty sepia-toned folk numbers that are reminiscent of their diverse influences including Gillian Welch, Sheryl Crowe, and Etta Jones. Songs that evoke the apparition of anti-heroes, unrequited love, and dusty highways alongside the glittering pacific are par for the course for HoneyHoney. As Santo reveals, “I try to write songs for a visual standpoint. I love movies. I like songs to really evoke that same stuff; I want a song’s imagery to make a movie in your head. The music should be the score.” Since their inception the duo has released an EP and three LPs, First Rodeo (2008), Billy Jack (2013), and 3, released last June—where the pair experiments with a more rugged, stripped down sound that carves a bolder execution of the vision found in its predecessors. HoneyHoney comes to Buffalo Iron Works on Tuesday, November 10 as part of an autumn tour that spans the nation.
