Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus

[CHORUS] The BGMC has titled their 2018-19 season, The Stories We Weave, putting a conceptual spin on their annual offerings that speaks to these strange times by reminding that there’s strength in numbers. At a time when something as seemingly innocuous as your choice of retail outlets can cause hateful discourse on social media, BGMC – launched on September 11, 2001, by the way — is here to assert the relevance of gay choruses as an unwavering, unifying faction of community. This weekend in Kenmore, they’ll kick off the new season with their fall show, Standing on the Side of Love, performed in the wake of National Coming Out Day, which falls on October 11. Compiled with an anti-bullying framework, BGMC is including composer Stephen Schwartz’s “Testimony” as the centerpiece of their set — a piece he wrote for the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus that uses quotes from the “It Gets Better” campaign (ala Dan Savage) about the struggle and triumph of coming out. The shows October 13 and 14 are in two different locations: Saturday, October 13 is at Kenmore United Methodist Church on Landers Road in Kenmore, 7:30pm, and Sunday, October 14, there’s a 3pm matinee at Kenmore Presbyterian Church, 2771 Delaware Ave. They are joined for both performances by Canisius College’s only a cappella group, The CresenDON’TS. $20.
