The Blasters

[PUNK] It’s a big week in Buffalo for fans of the L.A. underground circa 1980. Led by brothers Dave and Phil Alvin, X’s Slash label-mates The Blasters began churning out a sound that was both rootsy and forward moving in 1978, releasing their aptly titled debut, American Music, two years later. By preserving the libido-fueled energy of early rockers like Elvis Presley and fusing it with elements of rockabilly, they produced something both earthy and soulful that was quite novel at the time, occupying the tamer side of the same space as X, with which Dave Alvin later went on to play and record. The Alvins have only released six albums of material as The Blasters (not including live discs and compilations) in 37 years, taking a break from recording altogether from 1985 to 2005, but they’ve toured consistently and have pursued careers independently from one another as well. They return to the Tralf Music Hall with Blue Rocket Trio on Tuesday, September 19.
