Crowdfunding Campaign Responds to Walden Galleria Thanksgiving Threats

by / Nov. 15, 2014 6pm EST

You may have heard that the Walden Galleria mall is threatening to fine retailers $200 an hour for every hour they’re not open after 6pm on Thanksgiving. In fact, the satire website, The Onion, has already joked about it. If businesses wait to open until midnight on Black Friday, they could be fined up to $1,200.

Well, two local ladies want to do something about it: Rebecca and Laura Masters started an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign, Coffee and Cheer on Thanksgiving Day, to raise money to deliver coffee to employees forced to work at supper time on Thanksgiving at the Walden Galleria.

Buffalo is a close-knit, family city, it always has been. We need to support our fellow Buffalonians now and be a beacon, illuminating some cheer in what could be a seriously long, difficult day. Spread some holiday cheer and smiles. We’ll be using funds to deliver coffee first to family-run businesses in the Walden Galleria Mall…
