Four Dance Events to check out at Infringement Festival.

 Why Be A Woman
performed by Buffalo Contact Improv

Members of Buffalo Contact Improv Jam Performance Group will be presenting their piece Why Be A Woman? on Friday, August 5 from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s-Grace Episcopal Church at 51 Colonial Circle. Before the performance, there will be a workshop held at Karpeles on Thursday, August 4 from 12 to 1:30 p.m., which is open to the public where dancers will ask themselves the question “Why be a woman?” while utilizing sound, movement and spoken word in order to explore this theme. The work created during this workshop will be used in the main performances alongside the work created before the festival by choreographers Sophia Roberts, Nancy Hughes and Courtney Barrow. Some of the other performers involved in the event are Lindsay A. Daniels, Helen Fabre, A Vita Verde and Marissa Biondolillo.

 The Innkeeper’s Daughter
performed by Another Lopez

The Innkeeper’s Daughter is a solo performance showcasing choreographer and dancer Another Lopez telling her own tale of the Rokurokubi, which is a type of Japanese apparition. In this particular story, the main character is involved in crime and punishments, which transform her into a monster. The piece explores the misogyny among various cultures, in which females are “demonized, monsterized, and villainized in folklore and mythology.” While the performance is primarily movement-based, it also incorporates theatrical, sculptural, sonic and multi-media elements. “The Innkeeper’s Daughter” performance will take place at Dreamland on Saturday, July 30 at 5:30 p.m. Donations are welcome.

 Vibes, Tides & Emotional Landslides
performed by Mone Dance Company

The Mone Dance Company will be presenting their show “Vibes, Tides & Emotional Landslides” on Sunday, August 7 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Burchfield Penney Art Gallery at 1300 Elmwood Ave. This particular show is comprised of new works and evolved older works, which focus on the themes of unseen illnesses and bring mental health awareness to the forefront. Nakita Moné, Ilana Rose and Tanya Simmons are featured choreographers.
