Buffalo Opera Unlimited Celebrates its 30th Anniversary

by / Feb. 6, 2015 11am EST

It may seem odd to hear opera at 11 o’clock on a Saturday morning. On the other hand, if you are a devoted Wagnerite, getting up at dawn to see The Ring Cycle at Bayreuth (with breaks for meals, thankfully) is nothing unusual. This Saturday, however, before you start your weekend errands, come to the Ciminelli Recital Hall in Buffalo State College’s Rockwell Hall, third floor, for a “Celebration of Opera,” presented by BSC associate professor of voice Hally Bewley, in collaboration with Buffalo Opera Unlimited.

“We will preview our 2015 season with some vocal gems,” says Tim Kennedy, BOU’s founder and artistic director. “We have a great cast of singers: along with myself, Karen D’Angelo, Amy Teal, Robert Zimmerman, and most notably Rebecca Witty, who was a third place finisher at the recent Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for the Great Lakes Region.”

Musical selections from Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, A Salute to Duke Ellington, and Strauss junior’s Die Fledermaus will give attendees a tantalizing taste of the musical banquet to be presented at the UB Center for the Arts (March 13 & 15), 710 Main Street Theatre (October), and Rockwell Hall Performing Arts Center (December 4 and 6) respectively. A reception will be as stimulating as the performance, sure to leave you wide awake to start your day, whistling Adele’s “Laughing Song” from Fledermaus as you stroll the aisles at Target.
